Dr Dan Parnell (@parnell_daniel) and Dr Paul Widdop (@fire_and_skill) turn their lens on Medellín, Colombia to explore the potential legacy impacts of the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup. The research communication was done for Futsal Focus.
Daniel received his PhD in sport science from Liverpool John Moores University in 2014 and has taught at Liverpool John Moores University, Abertay University, Dundee, the University of Derby and Leeds Beckett University from 2006 until 2015. Since then, he has been a senior lecturer in Business Management at Manchester Metropolitan University involved with their Masters in Sport Directorship. He is also actively leading and involved in a number of research projects. Daniel is also the Research Director of Connect Sport, a network that serves to raise awareness of and participation in community sport.
Paul Widdop is a Senior Research Fellow at Leeds Beckett University and core member of Edinburgh University Academy of Sport. His research focuses mainly on three strands; consumption of sport and culture; relational sociology and worlds, the latter adapted from Howard Becker’s Artworlds concept; and the importance of place in consumption. Furthermore, he has a strong research interest in the method of social network analysis, especially applied to the consumption and production of sport and culture.
