The fixtures will mark the first time the England women’s futsal team has played on home soil — a significant milestone for a squad still in the early stages of its international journey.

The Slovakia matches form part of a wider sequence of elite fixtures for England, following their participation in the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 Main Round qualifiers in March 2026.

A Pivotal Moment in England’s Women’s Futsal Journey

The England women’s national futsal team was formally established in 2024, following collaboration between The Football Association and England Futsal. The move enabled England to enter women’s teams into UEFA and FIFA-sanctioned futsal competitions for the first time.

England made their international debut in October 2024 during qualifying competition hosted in Moldova for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup. The tournament represented the team’s first exposure to elite international futsal and included a historic 8–0 victory over Moldova — England’s first senior women’s futsal international win.

That experience laid the foundation for England’s continued involvement in European competition, leading to their entry into the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 qualifying cycle.

Lithuania Awaits: UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 Main Round

In March 2026, England are scheduled to travel to Lithuania to compete in Group B of the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 Main Round. The competition follows a single-venue mini-tournament format, with each team playing one match against every other side in the group.

England’s Group B opponents are:

  • Bosnia & Herzegovina

  • Serbia

  • Lithuania (hosts)

The group winner, along with the two best runners-up across all main-round groups, will progress to the next stage of qualification later in 2026, keeping qualification hopes alive for the 2027 finals.

Slovakia Friendlies: England’s First Home Matches

Following the Lithuania qualifiers, England will return home to host Slovakia in two international friendly fixtures at the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall, Loughborough University:

  • England vs Slovakia – 9 April 2026

  • England vs Slovakia – 10 April 2026

These matches will represent the first home internationals in the history of the England women’s futsal programme — a defining step in its continued growth and visibility.

The fixtures form part of a wider international futsal event week at Loughborough, which will also feature additional development activity around the sport.

Competitive Purpose Beyond the Occasion

While officially classified as friendlies, the Slovakia matches serve an important competitive purpose. Scheduled shortly after the intensity of tournament football in Lithuania, they provide England with:

  • The opportunity to consolidate learning from Euro qualifying matches

  • A controlled environment to assess squad depth and tactical combinations

  • Valuable experience playing in front of a home crowd for the first time

England Futsal has positioned the fixtures as part of the programme’s long-term performance development, rather than standalone exhibition matches.

Wider Significance for Women’s Futsal in England

The combination of a competitive Euro qualifying campaign and historic home fixtures reflects broader progress within women’s futsal in England. The programme’s strategic focus includes:

  • Creating visible international pathways for female players

  • Embedding women’s futsal more firmly within the national sporting landscape

  • Using home fixtures to inspire participation and engagement

Playing on home soil helps to develop stronger foundations for the women’s game in England and sustain their international involvement in future European cycles.
