New framework grants Svensk Futsal commercial rights to Swedish futsal leagues until 2028
During the spring and summer, discussions were held between the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) and the newly established interest organization Svensk Futsal regarding the conditions for the commercial development of futsal. These talks have now resulted in a framework agreement that grants Svensk Futsal, until June 30, 2028, the right to manage the commercial rights connected to the Swedish Futsal League (SFL) and the Regional Futsal League (RFL).

Svensk Futsal, the national interest organization representing the clubs in the men’s SFL and the women’s RFL, was founded on April 27, 2025. Following the decision by Svensk Elitfotboll (SEF) to step away from its responsibility for SFL on May 1, 2025, SvFF’s board has maintained ongoing dialogue with Svensk Futsal about the future of league operations.
The discussions have focused on creating clear roles and responsibilities. Both parties agree that it is highly positive for the clubs to take responsibility for their own commercial development. A central part of this process has been to ensure equal focus on both the men’s and women’s sides, which is why both SFL and RFL are included in the agreement.
The agreement grants Svensk Futsal the rights, until June 30, 2028, to exploit the commercial opportunities linked to SFL and RFL, including areas such as sponsorships and broadcasting. It also sets out guidelines for cooperation between SvFF and Svensk Futsal in specific areas, including refereeing and competition development.
“We see it as important that Svensk Futsal and the clubs at the elite level are given good conditions to work for the sport’s development, particularly on the commercial side. This framework agreement has been created through constructive discussions and resembles the agreements that exist with the elite organizations in football. We look forward to continued cooperation and dialogue around the development of Swedish futsal,” said SvFF chairman Simon Åström.
“The most important thing when the interest organization was formed was to immediately secure an agreement between Svensk Futsal and SvFF. Therefore, it feels extremely gratifying and important that the contract is now signed. The dialogue and cooperation with SvFF have been good, and we hope the agreement will benefit the entire football community in the long run. With this agreement, the clubs now have the opportunity to develop the sport and generate their own market revenues for a stronger and more attractive men’s and women’s league,” said Svensk Futsal chairman Per Broberg.
Thoughts from Futsal Focus
This agreement marks a positive milestone for Swedish futsal, offering clubs the chance to take greater responsibility for their sport’s commercial and competitive growth. The inclusion of both men’s and women’s leagues under the same framework signals an ambition for unified progress. The key consideration, however, is whether Svensk Futsal and its member clubs have the expertise and organizational structures required to manage sponsorships, media rights, and league development effectively. With the right knowledge and collaboration, this agreement could lay the foundations for futsal’s long-term growth in Sweden and strengthen its position within the wider football community.
