Expanded format and growing participation underline rapid development of women’s futsal across Europe
The qualification journey for the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 is underway, with the main round taking place from 17–22 March 2026, marking the first competitive step towards the finals in Croatia.
The fourth edition of the competition represents a significant milestone for the women’s game, as UEFA introduces a new expanded format and long-term structure designed to accelerate growth across Europe.
Main Round Format and Structure
The main round features 12 national teams, split into three groups of four, competing in single-venue mini-tournaments.
Each team plays the others once, with:
• Group winners
• Two best runners-up
Progressing to the elite round later in the year.
Main Round Groups
• Group A: Czechia, Belarus, Norway, Kazakhstan
• Group B: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, England, Lithuania
• Group C: Slovenia, France, Northern Ireland, Latvia
Notably, the round includes emerging nations such as France and Norway, both making their debuts at this stage of the competition.
Road to Croatia 2027
The qualification process is structured across three stages:
Main Round (March 2026)
• Entry point for lower-ranked nations
• Determines five teams advancing
Elite Round (October 2026)
• Joined by higher-ranked nations
• Produces the majority of finalists
Play-offs (November 2026)
• Decides the final qualification place
Seven teams will qualify through this pathway to join hosts Croatia at the finals in Osijek.
Expanded Finals and New Cycle
The 2027 edition introduces major changes to the competition:
• Expansion from four to eight teams in the final tournament
• Shift to a four-year cycle
• Alignment with the introduction of the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup
The finals will take place in Osijek, Croatia, from 14–21 March 2027, with all matches held at Arena Gradski Vrt.
Growth of Women’s Futsal in Europe
Since its launch in 2019, the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO has rapidly evolved into the continent’s premier competition, with Spain winning all three previous editions.
The expansion of the tournament reflects:
• Increased participation across UEFA member associations
• Greater investment in women’s futsal development
• A broader pathway for emerging nations to compete at elite level
The introduction of structured qualifying rounds and more fixtures is also providing players with greater competitive exposure, a key factor in accelerating technical and tactical development.
A Competition Entering a New Phase
With the main round now underway, the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 signals a turning point for the sport in Europe.
As teams battle for progression to the elite round, the next generation of players and nations are stepping forward—setting the stage for the most competitive Women’s Futsal EURO to date.
