A landmark move by the French Football Federation signals growing commitment to women’s futsal and long-term investment in the sport’s future.
The French Football Federation (FFF) has announced plans to launch a Women’s National Futsal Championship beginning with the 2026-2027 season, marking a major milestone in the development of women’s futsal in France.

This groundbreaking move, first revealed by FFF President Philippe Diallo in an interview with Ouest-France, was confirmed by L’Équipe. Diallo emphasized the Federation’s commitment to futsal and women’s football:
“Futsal, along with women’s football, is one of my top priorities in the development of our disciplines. The next major step will be the creation of a national women’s futsal league in 2026-2027.”
A 12-Team National League
The proposed format includes 12 teams, drawn from France’s 13 regional leagues, with each region expected to put forward a representative side. The project has been under consideration for several months and is scheduled for official approval at the FFF’s General Assembly this Saturday.
While no professional men’s or women’s football clubs have confirmed participation yet, several have expressed early interest.
Nantes Likely to Join the Elite
This initiative follows the creation of the French Women’s National Futsal Team just over two years ago and builds on the success of the Challenge Féminin (now renamed the Coupe Nationale Féminine Futsal).
Since its inauguration in 2023, the competition has been won twice by Nantes Métropole Futsal, a club that is widely expected to be part of the inaugural top tier of the women’s national league based on its dominant performances.
Spotlight on the Current Season
The final of the third edition of the Coupe Nationale Féminine Futsal will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 4 PM, just before the Men’s Division 1 Championship final. The match will feature Diamant Futsal (Evry-Courcouronnes, Essonne) and FC Vesoul, highlighting the growing strength and diversity of women’s futsal talent across the country.
Looking Ahead: Investment in Futsal
This planned women’s national championship builds on the foundation laid by the FFF’s ambitious futsal development strategy, which saw an investment of €18.5 million committed between 2022 and 2025. This funding has supported everything from grassroots initiatives to the formation of elite teams and national squads. As this financial plan runs through to the end of 2025, the futsal community will be watching closely to see how much the FFF will commit going forward—and whether this amount will increase in line with the sport’s growing momentum and visibility.
