Canada Soccer announces youthful roster for 2024 CONCACAF Futsal Championship

Emerging Talent: Canada’s Youthful Futsal Squad Ready for the Concacaf Futsal Championship

Canada Soccer unveiled the squad of 14 players, under the guidance of Head Coach Kyt Selaidopoulos, who will proudly represent Canada at the 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship in Managua, Nicaragua. This tournament marks a significant opportunity for Canada to make strides in the competition for the first time, with the added incentive of qualifying for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan slated for September.

Drawn into Group B, Canada will contend with the hosts Nicaragua, Cuba, and Panama. The journey commences with a match against Cuba on Saturday, April 13 (17.00 CT/ 18.00 ET/15.00 PT), followed by Panama on Sunday, April 14 (17.00 CT/ 18.00 ET/15.00 PT), and Nicaragua on Monday, April 15 (19.00 CT/ 20.00 ET/17.00 PT).

This is a team that is striving for success and will use this as an opportunity to showcase their talents on one of the biggest stages in the sport.” – Kyt Selaidopoulos, Canada Soccer’s Futsal National Team Head Coach. It will be particularly intriguing to observe how these young players, who have been playing futsal for most of their lives, measure up against their opposition on the international stage.

Upon completion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout phase, featuring Quarterfinals, Semifinals, a Third-Place Match, and the Championship match. The top four teams will earn the coveted spots as Concacaf representatives at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024™.

Reflecting on their last appearance in the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship, Canada faced Quarterfinal elimination after a penalty shootout loss to Panama (1(4)-1(3)). The trio of United States, Guatemala, and Panama secured spots in the FIFA Futsal World Cup, with Costa Rica clinching their third consecutive Concacaf Futsal Championship.

Canada, making their fourth appearance (2012, 2016, 2021) at the quadrennial continental Futsal Championship, is determined to secure their second-ever berth at the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
