Congratulations to Northern Ireland’s champions Linfield who came out on top in the Cathedral Eye Women’s Domestic Futsal League. A 3-1 victory over Cliftonville saw Linfield finish ahead of their rivals in the battle for top spot.

2022 was the launch of the Northern Ireland Futsal Federation by the Irish FA and Irish FA Foundation, their national league for the women’s futsal started in the best way possible with 27 clubs competing across 5 divisions. The Divisions included clubs from the very top of the football divisions in the women’s leagues including futsal specific clubs:

The first division:

Second Division:

Third Division East:

Fourth Division:

It will be great to see these leagues continue and have longer seasons along with players committed to futsal rather than playing the sport during the winter season only. It will also be great to see the same clubs who are also involved in football, entering teams in to the men’s futsal divisions which only has two divisions this season with few clubs participating in each division. The second division has ended already and Belfast Celtic Futsal were the champions.

There is much work to be done in Northern Ireland but it is great to see the sport now has a dedicated organisation represented by the participating clubs, the FA and Foundation, working hard to develop the sport’s visibility and participation along with club development.
